Note: Byron Rogers utilizes
industry-standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to allow
for the encryption of your information. If you are using a
security-enabled browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer
version 2.1 or greater, or Netscape Navigator version 2.0 or
greater), your information is secure. Our web site looks (and
works) better when you use version 4.0 or better of Netscape
Navigator or Internet Explorer, but can be used with any
tables-capable browser. If you need to upgrade your browser,
follow these links for the latest version of
Firefox, or
Internet Explorer.
Is the site
really secure?
Does a site claim to be secure? If you are using Netscape
Navigator or Communicator, a key or padlock emblem in the lower
left-hand corner of the screen represents the security of the page
you are visiting. If the key appears broken or open, then the page
you are on is not using a secure technology. In Microsoft
Explorer, a lock emblem will appear in the middle of the status
bar at the bottom of the screen when visiting a secure site. When
placing the mouse over the lock emblem, a window with more
information about the security technology being used will appear.
What is an SSL?
Web Hosting services are a key link in the chain of any E-commerce
transaction. This is because they store the data that makes up our
Web site. The transfer of data between the server and our
customers, or to and from our Payment Gateway (or Credit Card
Processing Agent Link) is a potential security risk. This is where
SSL comes in. SSL is based on an encryption system what is known
as Private/Public Key Pairing. It is one of the most sophisticated
encryption systems in use today and was developed for military
communication purposes.
In Web hosting it works this way: An SSL enabled server has a
'public key' that can be read by anyone and then used to encrypt
data to be sent to that server. The public key is a numeric value
that results from a formula (the 'private key'), which is very
difficult to reconstruct from the number that it creates. Once the
data has been encrypted using the public key it is sent to the
server where the SSL then decrypts the communication using its
private key. SSL is effective because the private key is never
transmitted from one source to another and therefore is impossible
to intercept!
Summary:
Paper money, checks and credit cards are payment systems that have
always been, and still are, vulnerable to fraud of various kinds.
Like E-commerce, all suffered from lack public confidence when
they were introduced into the economy. At the turn of the last
century (A time when a handshake was a stronger sign of a firm
commitment than a signed contract!), as governments first began
introducing paper money amidst a huge outcry, it was very
difficult to convince people to trade in their gold, silver and
copper for the new paper money.
The problems of E-commerce are no different, except that the basic
principal and security systems of credit card transaction, the
system that most E-Commerce is based on, already exist and only
need to be fine-tuned for the new technology. E-commerce security
systems are effective. When we started our E-commerce business we
found out what they are, and make sure that our visitors know that
they are in play on our Web site. (The rules for internet
transactions are the same as physical world transactions in so far
as using your credit card. You, our customer can only be held
liable for up to $50 for credit card fraud if something did go
wrong.) Soon, E-commerce will be as commonplace as paying cash at
the corner store.

Ever wonder what those Web error codes
mean?
These are the cryptic
little messages that flash across the screen when you can't get
where you're trying to go. Some codes just indicate that the site
is temporarily busy; others mean it's gone. Here are a few to help
you figure them out:
301 Moved Permanently
The resource has permanently moved
elsewhere, the response indicates where it has gone to.
302 Moved Temporarily
The resource has temporarily moved
elsewhere, the response indicates where it is at present.
400 Bad Request
Server doesn't recognize the URL. Double
check to see that you've typed it correctly.
403 Forbidden Pages
You're not being allowed access, for
whatever reason. If you've registered with a site that requires a
password, and still get this message, check to see that you've
correctly typed the password.
404 Not Found
It could be that the page you're
searching for has been deleted, or its name has been changed or
modified on the server. You can try deleting portions of the URL,
starting at the end, and see what comes up.
File Contains No Data
There are many reasons you could get
this, including the fact that there's nothing there. Try again
later.
Failed DNS Lookup
This could mean that you've incorrectly
typed the URL or that the server you're trying to reach is down or
too busy. Check the URL and try again.
503 Service Unavailable
Similar to the message
above. The page is there, but isn't accessible at the moment.
Hitting Reload or Refresh a few times may solve the problem.
An e-mail can't infect your
computer if you just read it. However, viruses can lurk in
e-mail attachments, generally executable programs rather than
simple attachments like pictures. If you open an infected
attachment, the virus will be released. The best way to avoid
problems is to simply not open files from unknown sources -- just
delete the
e-mail and the attachment will go along with it. If you read your
email in text only format you will help reduce any viruses or
worms from infecting your computer.
