Wow what a mouth full but it is all true!
I first meet Rixon G. Reed in Austin, Texas about 1981. He was in the mail order photo book business and was running the operation out of his home. His wife had built custom heavy wood book selves all over their house using every place a book shelf could fit. There where shelves above most doors and they where all full.
I saw a copy of Henri Cartier Bresson’s Decisive Moment* with the Matisse designed cover and wanted it badly but it was more than I could pay. I do not remember what the price was but now looking at auction prices I know it would have been a great purchase both in value and the book itself. Of course this was just one of the great books I saw and wanted.
My friend Victoria Smith** introduced Rixon to me as she was helping him enter data for his new computer system and master database of the books Photo-Eye had for sale. She knew about my passion for photography books and how much I would love to see all the new stuff and vintage books that he had for sale.
Years later he and wife and the book business moved to Santa Fe where they are today.
